I’ve been on the lookout for another end table to put beside the couch for quite a while. I had a large basket for throws there before, but really wanted another end table. I didn’t want to get another one that matches the two we have. I wanted something vintage… something unique. I’ve been checking out every antique store around for several months now, but just haven’t found the right one.
One day while sitting at my desk in our home office, I was looking around and thinking about ways to rearrange the room. “But if I moved something else in that spot, where could I put the chippy card catalog that I love so much?” Then it hit me… I could use it as the end table I’ve been searching for! But would it work? Is it too tall? Is it deep enough? Is it too wide for that space? Would it look out of place not being up against a wall? There’s only one way to find out!
So I moved it into the living room next to the couch. I think it looks pretty good. I think I like it there. It’s tall and not really convenient for sitting a drink or a book on, but it’s pretty to look at. Besides, the coffee table is right there to sit things on.
We bought the card catalog a couple of years ago at The Chapel Market, a yearly vintage/antique sale near Montgomery, Alabama, which was then hosted by the lovely Layla Palmer of The Lettered Cottage. I fell in love with the chippy paint and all the little drawers. We stopped by the Market on our way home from vacation, and barely had room to fit it in our SUV with our luggage. But we made it fit — and I’m glad we did.
So I think I’ll leave it there… at least for now. What do you think? Do you think it works in that spot? I’d love to hear your comments!
